⇒BARYSPHÈRE, subst. fém.
GÉOL. Partie centrale du globe terrestre formant une sphère rigide de forte densité, qui serait composée de métaux lourds, fer et nickel principalement :
• 1. Nous avons déjà nommé la barysphère, métallique et centrale, — entourée de sa lithosphère rocheuse, — surmontée elle-même des couches fluides de l'hydrosphère et de l'atmosphère.

• 2. Du noyau nous ne savons pas grand-chose en dehors de la présence très probable du fer et du nickel, ce qui l'a fait appeler « nifé » ou barysphère.
